Dolphus Damon Thompson, Sr. was born October 8, 1937 to the late Ida (Hopkins) and Bleach Thompson. He attend McCrory-Liston public schools and enlisted in The United States Army. He served three years during the Korean War from 1955 to 1958, where he was honorably discharged.
Dolphus moved to Columbus, Ohio where he met and married Alethia Berry and they had six children. During the army, his military training did prepare him to work for various manufacturers. Some of the jobs he worked, included an industrial crane operator as well as a bakers assistant; but mostly he was a professional presser for the Hopkin's family's dry cleaning business.
Dolphus was preceded in death by one son: Micros Thompson, four sisters: Shirley, Willie B., Doris & Helen, and two brothers: Jerome and O'Bear. He is survived by 6 children: Deirdre, Deborah (Bostick), Dolphus Jr., John, Christopher, and Ebony Johnson. Also three sisters: Mary Ruth (Lewis), Essie (Goodwin), and Nancy "Tillie" (Hall), grandchildren, great-grandchild, and a host of other relatives and friends.
The funeral services will be 11:00am Saturday, September 5, 2015, at the Gethsemane Baptist Church, Blair, SC. Interment will be in the Thompson Family Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday September 4, 2015 from 12pm til 6pm at The Russell-McCutchen Funeral Home. Professional Services entrusted to Russell-McCutchen Funeral Home.
