Mr. Franklin Roosevelt Thompson, 77

Franklin Delano Roosevelt Thompson, son of Johnnie J. Thompson, Sr. and Benton Johnson Thompson, was born June 15, 1940 in Shelton (Fairfield County) South Carolina.  He departed this life on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at the Warriors Walk Hospice Center (WJB Dorn Veterans Medical Center) in Columbia, South Carolina.
Franklin, along with his siblings, was raised in a Christian home by loving parents who taught him about the love and saving grace of Jesus Christ and the importance of good moral character and service to others.  He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at an early age and became a member of Weeping Mary Baptist Church.  Like his father, he loved to sing and was a member of the choir and was often called upon to lead songs and/or sing solos.
Franklin graduated from McCrorey Liston High School in 1958.  He was accepted and enrolled as a freshman at South Carolina State but left school and enlisted in the United States Navy in 1959.  He  honorably served his country for 23 years and retired in 1983.  His awards and decorations include:  Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy Achievement Medal, Battle Efficiency “E” Ribbon and Good Conduct Award (3).
Franklin leaves to cherish his memory:  Lalita Thompson (daughter), Houston, TX, Franklin (Andrea) Thompson, Jr. (son), Beaumont, TX, Lawanda (Oscar) Walker (daughter), Dover, DE, Corey Thompson (son), Charlotte, NC, Telvis Thompson (son), Winnsboro, SC, Genola Thompson (sister), Baltimore, MD, Joe L. (Elfriede) Thompson (brother), Columbia, SC, I. Lucille Thompson Martin (sister), Barbara L. Thompson (sister), Edgewood, MD and Carrie Lavonne “Shawdee” Cockel, (loving friend and companion), Blair, SC.  He also leaves his ‘adopted’ sons Stacey Feaster and Kelvis Alston, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Franklin was preceded in death by his mother and father, his grandparents, Joe W. and Siscley Emerson Thompson and Berry and Mary Coleman Johnson, his brothers Thomas James Thompson, Johnnie J. Thompson, Jr., Robert Earl Thompson, Howard Truman Thompson, and Jerry Thomas, his sisters Bessie DelValle, Siscley Phillips and Lizzie Feaster.
 Funeral services will be 3:00pm Saturday, September 30, 2017@ Weeping Mary Baptist Church, Blair, SC: Burial will be in the Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 1:00 to 7:00 pm Friday, September 29, 2017 at Russell-McCutchen Funeral Home, 324 S. Vanderhorst St. Winnsboro SC 29180.
