James Able Sr. of James Able & Sons was called home to be with our Lord and Savior on
Sunday May 2, 2015 in Columbia at Palmetto Health Richland Hospital. James was the 11th child
born to Haskell & Daisy Green Able. He attended Public Schools of Fairfield
County.
He married Carrie M.
Belton his childhood sweetheart whom he called his “sweetie”; unto this union 6
children were born.
James join Calvary
Baptist Church at an early age, where he served faithfully on the Trustee/Financial
Ministry for many of those years as Chairman of the Trustee Board, where eventually
he received the honor of Trustee Emeritus.
James
was a member of Purity Lodge # 42 of Ridgeway, South Carolina.
He was the founder/owner
of James Able Pulpwood as well as James
Able & Sons Asphalt Paving for over 40+ years. He was a forceful yet
gentle man loved by many people.
He was instrumental in
helping many young men get started in the working world. He instilled in them
the importance of hard work and being a man. This trait is seen in his sons as
well as his grandsons.
James leaves
to morn his passing his wife of 67 years, Carrie Mae and children, James Jr.
(Betty); Porter (Hattie); of Ridgeway ,South Carolina, Preston (Penilla) of
Bloomfield Conn, Bobby (deceased) (Clemetine); Shirley of Ridgeway South
Carolina, Patricia of Douglasville, GA and Cynthia of Morrisville, North
Carolina. One sister Bertha Gillard of Charlotte, North Carolina. Two sister-in-laws,
Christina Able of Ridgeway South Carolina and Nancy Exum of Washington, DC. Two
brother-in-laws Andrew and William Belton of Washington, DC. Twelve grandchildren Marcus, Laurie, Rhonda, Gerald, Porter (Rick), Christopher,
Shawn, Latisha, Crawford, Pamela, Hope and Paula.
A special niece Dryea (Willie) of Washington,
DC. A special nephew Willie Able Sr. (his family) of Ridgeway, South Carolina. A host of loving and caring nieces and nephews
and other close relatives and friends who will cherishes his memories.
The services for Mr. James Able Sr. will be Thursday May
7th at 11:00am (10:00am viewing) at St. Mark Baptist Church
Ridgeway, South Carolina with Committal, Benediction and interment at Calvary
Baptist Church 2815 Peach Road, Ridgeway, South Carolina.
A viewing will be held
Wednesday May 6, 2015 from 3pm-7pm with Masonic Rites at 7:30pm,
Russell-McCutchen Funeral Home of Winnsboro, South Carolina
The family wishes to ask
friends and family in lieu of Flowers make a donation to Calvary Baptist Church,
2815 Peach Road, Ridgeway, South Carolina to James Able building fund. Russell-McCutchen
