Mr. Joseph Miller, 95

Elder Joseph Miller was born March 26, 1920 in Lugoff, South Carolina. He was the youngest of eight children born to the late Rev. Robert Miller, Sr. and Adeline Jackson Miller. He transitioned from this earth into eternal life on Friday, May 29, 2015.The family resided near the Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church, in a strong religious Christian environment; which had a profound influence on Elder Miller’s spiritual development.
He was educated in the Richland County public school system. In 1942 he entered the United States Navy and in 1947 he was united in holy matrimony to Edith Grooms of Eastover, South Carolina,  whom departed her earthy life on July 5, 2013.

 Elder Miller worked as a carpenter at Fort Jackson, SC for 30 years.  As an entrepreneur, he did home renovations, and used his carpenter skills in constructing his own home as well as his church. 

Elder Miller was a very influential role model in his community as Pastor of the True Gospel Church in Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Church, of Eastover, SC. He was affiliated with the Progressive Church and the Emanuel Church of Christ. He later joined Church of God & True Holiness. Elder Miller always emphasized putting God first! He loved the Lord and was committed to serving Him. He was a very respected, admired and loved by everyone who knew him.

Elder Miller was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Edith Grooms Miller;  a son Steven Miller; two sisters Mrs. Florie Miller Highsmith, Mrs. Annie Mae Miller Garrett; four brothers, Deacon Clayton Miller, Sr., Mr. Samuel Miller, Mr. Roddy Miller, Sr.,  and Rev. Robert Miller, Jr.

He is survived by one sister Lessie Miller-Dinkins of Columbia, SC.

He leaves to cherish his memories; a son Rev. Willie (Minnie) Jacobs of Las Vegas NV; a daughter-in-law, Gwenevere W. Miller of Sumter, SC; seven grandchildren:  Crystal Jacobs Givens (Alford), Cedric Jacobs (Trevenia)  of Las Vegas, NV.; Mr. Eric Miller of Germany, Mrs. Chanarrah Diamond English (Corey)of Columbia, SC; Ms. Erika V. Miller, Ms. Stepharoon Miller, of Sumter, SC and Vonetta Witherspoon of Missouri;  fifteen great-grand children and four great- great grandchildren; a very special great niece Barbara Scott-Duckett and a host of other loving family members and friends.

Funeral services will Thursday June 4, 2015 @ 1:00 pm Church of God & True Holiness 11443 Garners Ferry Rd. Eastover SC 29044 with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Cemetery.Wake will be Wednesday June 3, 2015 from 6pm  to 8pm at Church of God & True Holiness  11443 Eastover SC 29044.
